As a Medical Officer, you will be responsible for:- Providing independent leadership in research of national and international significance, participating in the overall planning, development, and implementation of policies and procedures related to the extramural program.
- Administering clinical and basic research projects, including clinical trials, supported by the assigned organization.
- Developing strategies to overcome unforeseen difficulties with innovative solutions to ensure progress toward goals, and integrating and coordinating the efforts of others in the organization, providing technical leadership to extramural research efforts in the design and conduct of research
- Taking administrative measures to achieve program goals through contacts with researchers and in administration of grant applications and ongoing projects, and communication of program goals.
- Maintaining liaison with investigators, institutions, organizations and other government agencies engaged in assigned research activities and related fields.
Licensure: For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
To Qualify at the GS-15 Grade Level:
In order to qualify at the GS-15 level, the applicant must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-14).
Examples of Specialized experience include: provide specialized medical expertise in clinical research; collaborate with other organizations and outside researchers in a variety of clinically-related projects;
analyze, evaluate, and interpret scientific and clinical data in order to prepare papers for publications in peer-reviewed journals; design, conduct, or direct clinical investigations or trials; provide direct patient care or develop organization policies about
patient care; develop policies and plans to strengthen the program areas which impact national and/or international research activities.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
